Verb Quest App Review & GIVEAWAY
Smarty Ears has recently released a new app called Verb Quest. It's cute, kid-friendly, and has a fun witch theme. So many of my students have difficulty understanding verbs. Having an app that targets verbs specifically is great for addressing these skills and collecting good data.
Check it out!
Tap "play" on the home screen to get started and add players.
Choose the level at which you'd like each player to work by tapping modify. There are 20 levels that include simple, irregular, past/present/future, progressives, modals, and much more. (It gets really complex!) If you master the level by getting 10 sentences correct without a hint, it will automatically progress you to the next level.
Hit start to begin. To play choose the correct word or phrase that fits correctly into the target sentence. Once you get it right, you have the option of recording yourself repeating the sentence to practice speaking correctly. I LOVE this option.
The target screen shows whose turn it is at the top of the screen, the accuracy at the bottom left, and a hint button on the bottom right. You can change the settings by tapping the top left corner. You have the option of changing the background, displaying the hint and accuracy, using automatic progression, and recording correct responses.
When finished tap "done" to end the game. This takes you to the reports room where you can view each student's progress. You can analyze their data by session or by level.

After a student completes a level, they win a virtual trophy to put on their virtual shelf. ;) This for some reason, is super motivating for my kids. Sometimes they ask if they can play "the trophy game" to earn more for their shelves. Haha.
Recap of what I love about this app:
- It's unique. There really aren't that many other apps out there that specifically target verbs.
- The graphics are appealing and motivating for students.
- You can record your student repeating the sentence using the correct verb form.
- It automatically progresses you to the next level once you've successfully mastered a level.
- The rewards are motivating for students.
What could make it better:
- The hint option just gives the student the correct response. I wish it would eliminate an answer choice instead.
Verb Quest is $19.99 on iTunes. Check it out HERE.
Smarty Ears gave me a free copy of the app to giveaway!! Enter in the Rafflecopter below to win a copy of your own. The opinions of this app review are my own. I was given a copy of this app to review, but no other compensation was provided.

Common Core Task Cards for Speech Therapy K-2 {GIVEAWAY}
Today is Monday and I'm not at work! I'm sitting on my couch and enjoying a nice cup of tea on this muggy October day. It's fall break down here, so we get a couple of days to recoup and rest and gear up for the crazy school days ahead. Fortunately for me, this means I get a little time to devote to my blog. Oh, how I've missed you.
Here in Louisiana we are currently using the Common Core State Standards as the basis for our curriculums across the state. Though our governor and state superintendent of education are in a bit of a dispute right now over it, we as educators are still trucking along, educating our children, and using these rigorous standards the best way we can...whether or not we agree with it.
As an SLP, I see the standards that apply to my students and immediately deconstruct them in my head. I try to see the underlying skills that my kids may not be able to do and try to bridge that gap. Now, this is obviously easier said than done. Sometimes the gap is so wide that it's looking like the Atchafalaya Bridge, but hey you've got to start somewhere.
My new product was made to specifically help address some of the CC standards in my speech room and I know you are going to love it as much as I do!
Enter: Common Core Task Cards for Speech Therapy K-2!
This download includes 12 cards for each of the following areas:
I love these cards because I can use them in so many different ways. They're great for practicing in the therapy room or on-the-go. You can use them as a ticket out the door activity, out in the hallways, or even to bring them into a classroom. Sometimes we'll review a card or 2 if we have a few minutes left in a session.
Assembling them is easy. Just print on card stock, laminate, and cut them out. Then punch a hole in the corner and attach a book ring.
There are deck covers for each area. You can put all the cards for the grade on one large book ring or put them each on individual small rings.
What do you think? Is this something that might help you? :) You can find it in my TPT store here!

Themed Therapy Worksheet Combo
This year has probably been my busiest, craziest, most hectic beginning of the year I've ever experienced in all my 8 years of being an SLP. I feel like I'm being pulled in five directions and have redone my schedule five thousand times. The last thing I have time to do is spend a lot of time planning, which is why I am loving this themed therapy thing SO much these days.
Do you use themes in therapy? I know that several of my sweet bloggy friends do and love it, so I wanted to be on the ball with it this year. I've already sat down and planned my themes for the entire school year. Pretty fab, right? This month I'm covering superheroes, pirates, and football. The kids are eating it up so far!
To make my life even easier, I created another worksheet pack that covers these specific themes! It's a combo pack, so it's a LOT bigger than my other ones (63 pages!). Check it:
This pack includes all of my favorite worksheet activities. They are geared toward articulation but can usually be adapted for other skills as well. There are generic worksheets for all 3 themes and including dots, cut and paste, color a picture, syllables, tic-tac-toe, roll and color, draw and describe, and more (i.e. there are pirate, superhero, and football sheets for each of the type of worksheet). Here are a few examples.
Plus, there are already filled out worksheets for /r/ and /s/ (30 of them!)
What do you think? You can grab them at my TPT store HERE!
Want to win a copy of your own?? Just comment below with how this would help you. I'll pick a random winner on Sunday! :) Have a great weekend!

iName It ~ App Review & {Giveaway}
It's state testing week in my district! That means no therapy, just sitting with a small group of kiddos delivering a test. Fun times. Well, there's nothing like a little giveaway to liven things up! When Smarty Ears contacted me to review their app, iName It, I said of course! I love being able to show you around a new app.
Check it out. *Although Smarty Ears provided me a copy of this app, the opinions and ideas expressed are all mine.
The Home page contains 4 buttons at the bottom: Start Practice, Settings, Results, and Support. The "settings" tab allows you to change the language from English to Spanish or Portuguese.
The "support" button lets you learn more about the app and Smarty Ears. I always start here and watch the video tutorial. That way I don't miss any fun tid bits about the app. :)
To get started tap on "start practice" and enter the user information. You can create as many users as you need but you can only target one at a time.
The next screen presents you 5 different household rooms. Each one targets 10 items that can usually be found in that room. You just choose the room you want to go to in order to get started.
Inside each room is a scene with several common items to identify. The list of items are located in the green box at the bottom of the screen. Just tap on the item you'd like your client to identify.
From the home screen tap the "results" button to see the data that you've gathered on each client.
The data is explained in overall naming accuracy with and without cues. It even tells you the most successful type of cue used. You also have the option to export your results, email, or print them.
Even though this app is geared toward adults with aphasia, I'm planning on using it with some of my preschoolers and low-functioning vocabulary students that need help with building this skill. Because the room scenes are so great, I'm even thinking of using it for goals other than just naming (i.e. object functions, describing, WH questions, etc.). I love versatile apps that I can use for multiple things at once!
You can grab iName It in the iTunes store for $14.99 HERE! And thanks to Smarty Ears, be sure to enter the rafflecopter below for a chance to win your own copy of this app!

Once you tap it, everything else in the room changes to gray except the targeted item.
If the client labels the item correctly, tap the green check button. If they label it incorrectly, tap the blue button. This button immediately brings you to the prompt screen. You can choose 5 different naming prompts:
1. A written cue - It provides the first couple letters of the word followed by a blank.
2. A definition cue - It gives a visual and auditory definition of the what the object is.
3. A sentence frame - It gives the word in the context of a cloze-type sentence.
4. A phonetic cue - The first part of the word is given auditorily. (see arrow below)
5. Word cue - The word itself is presented on the screen.
Tap "got it" anytime or "missed" after the final cue to keep track of your data. You can continue this process throughout each room.
If you tap the eye button located on the left of the green box, the room changes to gray and only the targeted items are highlighted. This gives you a better visual of where the objects are. I like to use it especially if you want to target some of the items receptively (i.e. "Find the shoe").
From the home screen tap the "results" button to see the data that you've gathered on each client.
